![]() ![]() ![]() Without abandoning the symphonic school of black metal, Vidar Jense (aka Daemon) and friends became heavier on 2007's Legacy of Evil - and they increase the heaviness factor even more on Phantasmagoria. But the use of a drum machine doesn't mean that Phantasmagoria isn't heavy in fact, this 2010 release may very well be Limbonic Art's heaviest album to date. And those who insist that drum machines have no place in black metal or any other type of metal will take no comfort in Phantasmagoria, which finds Limbonic Art continuing to favor electronic drum programming. So it isn't surprising that Limbonic Art's use of a drum machine has been quite controversial in black metal circles. Hard bop, post-bop, Dixieland, swing, and free jazz are full of musicians who would rather swallow cyanide than use a drum machine on their albums, and countless metal musicians feel the same way whether their focus is death metal, goth metal, power metal, progressive metal, folk metal, or thrash metal. ![]() Hearing fabulous works of metal like this one makes it hard to pick favorite tracks but I’d say Crypt of Bereavement, A World of Pandemonium, Prophetic Dreams and Astral Projection are stronger.Although the metal and jazz worlds seldom cross paths, there is one thing that many metal and jazz musicians have in common: a strong commitment to music that is played rather than programmed. Things can never get monotonous with Limbonic Art. And believe me Phantasmagoria goes further away from any source of light.Īll of the songs are different from the other and each track has its own signature riffing and beats. For those who are not versed with this kind of metal, in simple words Limbonic Art plays music that is dark, fast, epic and has choirs to go with it. Phantasmagoria – as is the new album named, sticks to the genre and has twelve tracks. With negligible or absolutely no glitches in any of their albums, Limbonic Art is one of the major players and have kept symphonic black metal alive. Limbonic Art have always been doing their thing and at the same time their followers welcome their new releases. 2010 has been a strong year for black metal, as the bands that made sure the genre is not looked down upon right from its inception make tomorrow worth living. ![]()
